Calligraphy for beginners
Italic is the heart beat of gestural writing. This is a warm invitation to start or continue a calligraphic journey.
Kalligrafie: Veelsydige Italic
Italiese skrif verleen homself aan vele interpretasies- soos 'n veelsydige stem. Hierdie is 'n kursus wat veral vir beginners geskik is.

Elkeen wat graag saam wil kom eet, moet asb 'n bordjie vinger eetgoed saambring (en iets om te drink) en by Heleen (0833255757) vir Aswater en Liezl (0870956229) vir Weltevrede bespreek ter wille van getalle. Ons sien daarna uit om elkeen te verwelkom.

Feast of Tabernacles:
Open farm prayer route
A different kind of Camino. Drive from one farm to another- take a long winding road. From Prieska to Napier then to Prince Albert and Klaarstroom. Each farm having its own prayer route-places to become still and praise the One to Whom all the glory belongs. During the Feast of Tabernacles these farms will fling their gates wide open to welcome you. You might even consider camping-true Sukkot style! Most of the farms have accommodation, but you are welcome to just visit the route as well.

Vir die heel eerste keer word daar op een slag tydens die Loofhuttefees van die plase wat gebedsroetes op het, se hekke wyd oopgeswaai om elkeen wat die Here vir Sy goedheid wil kom loof te verwelkom! 'n Unieke soort 'Camino' Ry wye draaie op stil paaie - Karoopaaie via Prins Albertdistrik, Napier en Prieska. Elke plaas is 'n unieke ruimte. Sommige het gastehuise en kampeerplekke, maar enigeen is welkom om selfs net vir die dag te kom.

Kalligrafie is 'n hartstaal. Ons skryf te min. Ons hart het soms nodig om verwoord te word. In die slypskool gaan ons ons handskrif mooi plooi deur dit op 'n middeleeuse italiaanse skryfstyl te skoei.
Journey Mapping
Our life is made up of journeys and they all bring to mind different memories. In this two day workshop we will, in a visually creative way,
record these real or imaginary journeys by using different techniques and then binding them into a 'travel journal' and folding them into a map. Silent studio ( Chatter teas, but quiet times of creating to allow yourself time to be still)

Alef-Tav Unveiled
Take two letters, A&Z, Aleph and Tav,
write from your heart to your heart, embracing life’s beginnings and endings.
Using letters and symbols from the Hebrew alphabet, we will journey inwardly-tilling fallow lands-making the invisible visible-
embodying thoughts and feelings with letters, strokes, colours, patterns and words.
No previous calligraphic experience neccesary.
Students are welcome to stay longer to continue their journey at their own pace

Coffee, a snack and a behind-the scenes peek at the wonder filled world of calligraphy and calligraphers.
Cost R100
This one-of- kind installation is a live-in work of art. It houses original works of art by international calligraphers such as Brody Neuenschwander, Yves Letterme, Katharina Pieper, Carl Rohrs, Ewan Clayton, Denis Brown, Maud Baekart and Massimo Pollelo as well as Heleen's and other South African calligraphers. The walls have been hand lettered, the floors and soft furnishings too! Enjoy this visual feast and then continue the journey on your own through the land art in the poplar wood, the open air gallery of hand carved stones and 1.2 m tall letter installations.
Mark making: Asemic writing
Writing with anything that can make a mark to expressthat which extends beyond words and semantics.
In this workshop we will experiment with writing patterns and instruments and explore inscribed meanings

Silent studio creative retreats
Creatives ( painters, ceramicists, embroiderers, calligraphers, bookbinders, actually anyone)are invited to a retreat on Aswater farm where you will be able to work in the light and spacious studio on your own project.
You can make use of our self catering accommodation (or arrange bring -and -share suppers with fellow creataaives)
Studio cost R250 per day
Artist groups are welcome to book a time slot for their group.
You are most welcome to contact me should you and your group wish to do a course.
